Google Business reviews

A feature

Connect Google Business however suits you. The simple Places API or the full-history Business Profile API. Your call.

Trustie Pro gives you two ways to pull Google reviews onto your site, and you pick the one that fits.

Places API is the quickest path. Drop in a Google Cloud API key and your Place ID, save, done. The five most recent reviews flow through. This is what most review widgets use, and for shops with a steady stream of fresh reviews, the latest five are usually the most useful ones.

Business Profile API (sometimes called the Google My Business API) returns every review you’ve ever received. Connect via your Google account, and Pro pulls the full history. If you’ve earned 200 reviews over the years and want to surface them all, this is the path. It’s a few more setup steps because Google requires OAuth for the data, but you only do it once.

Both options live in the same Trustie settings page. Switch between them later if your needs change.

What this unlocks

Once connected, your Google reviews behave like any other review source in Trustie:

  • They appear on the auto-generated reviews page alongside product reviews and testimonials.
  • They show in the floating widget under their own tab.
  • They contribute to your aggregate star rating.
  • They output rich-snippet schema on your pages, so search engines can index them as belonging to your site.

Each review shows the reviewer’s name, star rating, review text, and date. Photos attached to Google reviews come through. Owner responses you’ve written on Google also come across, so the back-and-forth stays visible.

Picking your connection

Places API. Best for shops where the latest five reviews are enough, or shops just getting started with social proof on the site. Setup is one API key plus your Place ID. The Places API is also rate-limited and free at the volumes a typical shop uses.

Business Profile API (BYO OAuth). Best for shops with a deep review history they want to surface in full, or shops that want their owner responses and photo replies to show through alongside the reviews. You create a Google Cloud project, enable the Business Profile API, and connect with your Google account. Tracksies stores the OAuth token; new reviews sync automatically from then on.

Tracksies platform OAuth. A future option for the Business Profile API path: click Connect, approve on Google’s side, done. Tracksies handles the auth layer through its own Cloud project. On the roadmap, shipping after the current Trustie Pro launch.

You can switch paths at any time. Reviews from one path are replaced cleanly when you reconnect via another.

How it compares to embedded Google widgets

Embedded Google widgets (the ones Google itself offers, or third-party plugins that scrape the public Places API) render through a third-party iframe or script, are styled to the third party’s design, and are not indexable by search engines as belonging to your site.

Trustie Pro renders Google reviews natively on your own pages through your theme, with your Trustie styling, and contributes schema that search engines can index on your domain.

The fit: if you want the simplest possible drop-in widget and don’t need SEO or design control, the free embedded widgets work. If you want your Google reviews to look and feel like part of your site (and to count toward your domain’s search visibility), Trustie Pro’s approach is designed for that.

Sync cadence

Trustie refreshes Google reviews on a configurable schedule (default once per day). New reviews appear on your site within that window automatically. You can also trigger a manual refresh from the Trustie settings page if you’ve just received a review and want it visible immediately.

Why shops connect at all

Google reviews are where most buyers form an early impression. If you’ve earned them, showing them on your product pages, your about page, your homepage widget, and your reviews page is pure upside. The Places API path lets you start in five minutes with the latest five reviews. The Business Profile API path lets you go deeper later when the social-proof story you want to tell needs the full history. Both flow through the same Trustie surfaces, so you don’t pick the path once and live with it forever — you start where it makes sense and grow from there.
