What WooCommerce gives you by default
The stock Reviews tab on a product page uses the WordPress comments system. It was designed for blog-post comment threads a long time ago. What customers see:
- A basic list of comments with five stars attached to each.
- A minimal “leave a review” form: rating plus a textarea.
- No star distribution chart, no photos, no demographic context, no visible owner replies, no visual polish.
Functional, but not helpful. It treats a product review the same as a blog comment, and the page reflects that.
What Trustie’s reviews tab does instead
Trustie keeps the tab where customers expect it (the WooCommerce product page tabs area) and replaces the content inside.
- Summary at the top. Overall star rating, total count, and any custom rating fields you’ve collected through the custom form (fit, comfort, ease of use, size accuracy — whatever your form asked). The summary uses your Brand Hub colours and typography.
- Reviews as cards, not comment threads. Each review is its own block with the reviewer’s name, date, verified-purchase badge where applicable, star rating, review body, any photos as thumbnails with lightbox, and any owner reply rendered inline.
- The custom review form at the bottom. If you’ve set up a form in the custom form builder, that form is what customers submit through. Stars, text, photos, demographics, whichever fields you’ve configured for that product’s form. Not the default WC comment form.
How it integrates with WooCommerce themes
Trustie’s tab uses WooCommerce’s own woocommerce_product_tabs filter, the same one the stock Reviews tab uses. That means it works with any theme that respects that filter — which is virtually every WooCommerce-compatible theme, because themes that don’t respect it break a lot of core functionality.
Trustie detects whether Woo’s native tab, Trustie Free’s tab, or another tab with the same slot is present, keeps the first one it finds, deduplicates the others, and hands the rendering to Pro’s enhanced version. Theme doesn’t need any special setup.
What about regulated products?
If a product uses a regulated review form (see Regulated products feature), the reviewer-guidance block appears above the form, and the “reviews on this product are moderated” note shows clearly. Customers know what to expect before they type.
Are you considering Yotpo, Okendo, or Judge.me’s product-page widgets?
Yotpo and Okendo take over the whole product-page reviews area with their hosted widgets. They function this way: a tag renders the reviews UI from their platform, with their filtering/sorting/pagination built in, in their design system by default. Typically the most polished option visually at enterprise tiers.
Judge.me renders reviews through its own widget as well, with filter and sort controls inline.
Trustie’s reviews tab renders natively from your own WordPress database using your own theme’s fonts and your Brand Hub colours. No third-party script, no external dependency for display. Filter/sort/pagination live on a dedicated reviews page rather than in the tab itself.
The fit: if you want a single product-page widget with filters and pagination and you’re happy with a third-party domain handling the UI, the enterprise platforms give you that. If you want reviews to look like they belong to your site, and you’re happy to keep the tab quick-read with a deeper reviews page one click away, Trustie’s approach is designed for that.
Where the tab fits vs other review surfaces
The tab is one of four places Trustie shows reviews:
- The product reviews tab (this feature) — customers who’ve scrolled to the tab are evaluating this specific product.
- The floating widget — always-on low-intensity social proof across the site.
- The auto-generated reviews page — the deep-dive page with all reviews, filters, sort.
- Rich snippets in Google search — reviews attached to your search result via JSON-LD schema.
Each surface serves a different moment. The tab is “I’m reading about this product now.”
