Frequently Asked Questions
What is Fetchie?
Fetchie replaces WordPress’s built-in search with results that actually help: ranked by relevance, with the matching line highlighted and a link straight to that spot on the page. It all runs on your own site.
What are the alternatives to Fetchie for WordPress search?
There are keyword search plugins, and there are cloud or vector search services. Fetchie’s spot is the middle: relevance-ranked results with Google-style snippets, kept on your own site, with no external search service and no vector database to run.
Is a search plugin worth it for my WordPress site?
If your site has more than a handful of pages or products and people use the search box, yes. The bigger your catalogue, the more the default date-ordered search costs you in lost visitors.
Do I need WooCommerce to use Fetchie?
No. Fetchie works on any WordPress site, and adds product and SKU search on top when you run WooCommerce. You’ll want WordPress 6+ and PHP 8+.
How do I improve the default WordPress search?
WordPress sorts results by date. Fetchie ranks by relevance, shows the line that matched, and links straight to that spot on the page. Best match first, not newest.
Can customers search WooCommerce products by SKU or variation?
Yes. Every variation’s SKU and options fold into the parent product, so a SKU search lands on the right product page. No dead-end variation results a customer can’t buy from.
What does Fetchie index on a product?
Every variation, rolled into the parent: the parent’s SKU, short description and attributes, plus each variation’s own SKU, options and description. A variation SKU search lands on the product page, and variations never show up as separate results.
Do I need Pinecone or a vector database?
No. Fetchie’s index is a few small tables in your own database. No vector store to host, no external search service, and nothing to keep in sync when your content changes.
Will Fetchie work with my page builder (Bricks, Elementor, Divi, Oxygen)?
Yes. Fetchie reads the rendered page, so builder content is fully searchable, and it steps aside for a search template you’ve built yourself. There are native blocks for Bricks, Gutenberg and Divi too.
Can I choose which content gets indexed for search?
Yes. Pick which content types are searchable, each shown with a count, keep out anything that doesn’t belong in results, and run a test page fetch before you build the whole index.
Does the search index update automatically when I publish?
Yes. Fetchie reindexes a page when you publish it and drops it the moment you unpublish, with a nightly pass for anything that changed outside the editor. There’s nothing to rebuild by hand.
Can I control how strict or broad the search results are?
Yes, with one dial: Exact, Balanced or Broad. Change it and it applies to the very next search, with no reindex needed, so it’s quick to tune to what you sell.
How do I see what visitors search for on my website?
The Insights tab shows your top searches and the ones that found nothing, with a digest email so the gaps reach you. It records what was searched, never who searched it.
Does the search log track my visitors?
No. Queries are logged with no name, account or IP attached, kept for a retention window you set, and you can switch recording off entirely. The insights are aggregate by design.
Where is my data stored?
On your own site, always. The index and the search log are tables in your own database, so nothing about your content or your visitors leaves your hosting, and there’s no external service in the loop.
Will a search plugin slow down my WordPress site?
No, the opposite on a busy site. It answers from a lean index instead of scanning every post, so its cost scales with the query rather than how much content you have. It runs happily on shared hosting.
Is Fetchie useful for agencies and freelancers building client sites?
Yes. It takes over search with zero config, yields to your own search-results template, and drops ranked results in via the [fetchie_results] shortcode or native builder blocks, with a filter to force the take-over decision on unusual setups. And your licence covers two, five or twenty sites depending on the tier, so your staging site and a few client builds are covered without buying again.
What happens if I cancel Fetchie?
Your site keeps working; search falls back to the WordPress default. If you uninstall, you choose whether the index and the search log are removed with it or kept for a reinstall.
How much does Fetchie cost, and are there discounts?
$49 for your first year ($39 annual licence plus a one-off $10 sign-up), then $39 a year to renew. That is Solo, for two sites, and your licence covers two, five or twenty sites depending on the tier, so your staging build and a handful of client sites are all included. No monthly bills and no per-search fees, and renewals are already discounted.
How many sites can I use my licence on?
Two, five or twenty, depending on the tier you pick. Every tier updates from the one licence, so your live site, a staging copy and your client sites are covered without buying again. Staging counts as an activation like any other site, which is why the smallest tier is two rather than one.
Why isn't there a free version of Fetchie?
Because the only way to make a free search plugin is to make it a worse one, and we would rather not. A search that stops indexing past a certain number of pages, or that holds back relevance ranking and snippets, isn’t a smaller Fetchie, it’s a broken one, and it would give you a poor first impression of the very thing we are proud of. Some plugins split cleanly into a complete free version and a paid one with extras; Trustie, our reviews plugin, is exactly that. Fetchie doesn’t divide that way without gutting the core. So instead of shipping a hobbled version, we keep it whole, price it flat and fairly (one licence, two to twenty sites), and back it with a 14-day refund. Try it on your real content, and if it isn’t better, send it back.
